Volunteer with Sailability Wellington

Sailability Wellington needs volunteer assistance to run its valuable therapeutic sailing project for people with disabilities. We currently have over 60 volunteers providing over 300 hours of assistance each week, with contributions ranging from a few hours each week to many people who volunteer for a full 7 hour sailing day each week. The benefits of volunteering include gaining skills and experience and regular training through our programme. Being a Sailability Volunteer is a rewarding, safe and fun activity.

Our volunteers are trained in all aspects of sailing, yacht handling, safety and disability through our rigorous training programme.  You don’t need to be able to sail as we provide some training in that area. Some of the volunteer positions available include: meeting and greeting our sailors, rigging and de-rigging boats, assisting our sailors into and out of boats, crewing and helming for our sailors and crewing the support powerboat. We also have other voluntary positions which do not require time on the dock but are essential to delivering our life changing programme. Detailed descriptions of these positions, along with the structure of a typical sailing day can be found here..

We welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life, whether they have a disability or not, as long as they want to make a difference to our sailing community. Our volunteers and sailors make Sailability the success that it is today, so email or call 04-472-4546 to make a difference.
